Trump's Histrionics at the UN Human Rights Council

Announcement of withdrawal by Nikki Haley
Ever seen a child who quit a game because his friend was targetted in the game? I think, yes. If no, you have a chance to see that child in Mr. Trump. The U.S.A. has quit the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on 19th June 2018 after it was disappointed with the efforts and mechanisms of the UNHRC which it typecasts as 'biased'. The withdrawal of the U.S.A was announced by Nikki Haley, U.N. Ambassador, and Mike Pompeo, the Secretary of State in a meeting.
The withdrawal comes after the successive targeted sanctions on Israel, the U.S. ally. The U.S. was most affected by this problem that why only Israel is targetted and not any other country violating Human Rights.

Nikki Haley in her speech pointed out that sanctions were imposed on Israel 5 times by the meetings in UNHRC and that countries like Venezuela, a country with most human rights violations, were given membership in the UNHRC. Also, that no actions were taken against countries like China or Cuba since they were members of the UNHRC. It doesn't appear to be a proper reasoned approach for quitting the UNHRC. Countries like the U.S. just want a veto at every international institution so that they can do what they want like restricting any countries membership or for not passing any resolution.

Albeit, the actions were targetted prominently at Israel, it never implies that the institution is not working properly, it is at least trying to eradicate human right violations at some place. Also, it can be seen that there are many other countries which are violating human rights and that UNHRC is unable to act upon it but this does not mean that you quit that institution. It was also said that the U.S.A. is leaving UNHRC to erode its remaining credibility derived from the U.S.A. but this is not a healthy step at all. You have to be a part of the institution to change the institution. No outsider can do anything more than criticising it. The U.S.A is aiming at reducing Human rights violations according to its own measures outside the UNHRC. Furthermore, a country like the U.S.A. cannot simply say that no actions are taken against countries like China or Cuba, it has to work this out with other countries from within that international organization and not just leave it because of dejection and disappointment.

The withdrawal cannot be absolutely disrespected since to some extent the allegations imposed on the Council are true and that the Council has been protecting the human rights violators in some or the other obvious ways. It is hoped that the U.S.A. makes proper attempts at reducing Human rights Violations without the assistance of UNHRC and that such attempts are not bogus and ostentatious like other steps taken by Trump.
