For Social Cohesion, Inter-caste marriages are a necessity

“Log kya kahenge?” is a very common saying justifying the declining counts of the inter-caste marriages. Keeping up with the Joneses might be another reason implying maintaining our standards with the other people of the society and for doing so showing reluctance to inter-caste marriages is second to none. Through inter-caste marriages, the interaction would shoot up and a beautiful ambience would be created without any spark of animosity towards another person or his deeds.

People think inter-caste marriages would lower their status and bring a bad name to the family. The worst part is that they think "society" will not accept that and so they don't accept it themselves. The intercaste marriages would not only improve social bonding in the society but also liberate the people from the shackles of the orthodox cultures and thoughts. People should become more dynamic so as to go with the wind and not get crushed beneath the storms of impractical ideas. Inter-caste marriage would eradicate the class divisions as well as ideas' division between people. It would even help in the recognition of some castes that have not been inculcated in the mainstream. I am not saying that only inter-caste marriages can lead to social cohesion rather it would turn the mind restricted ideas of opening up to changes into reality and would in the real world, properly, change the mindsets of the people.
The plea for unity has been voiced since and even prior to our independence and again it needs to take material forms through the help of the proponents of secularism, unity in diversity, acceptance to all castes and the sociologists and the humanitarians. Inter-caste marriage is just a part of the chain of social cohesion and when each one will stand up and link each hook to form the chain then only this unity can stand tall and not stand to fall again.
